It sounds as though you are still trying to ‘willpower’ yourself thin, which is a bit like trying to hammer in nails with nothing but a screwdriver. It’s not that it’s not a useful tool, but rather that it’s the wrong tool for the job at hand. By using your imagination instead of your will, you’ll find it nearly effortless to leave food on your plate and out of your stomach.
If you’re really stuck, try this – cut off a few bites of food before you start eating and either throw them away or sweep them onto a spare plate and have your waiter or waitress take it away. Then you can eat everything that’s left on your plate (providing you’re actually hungry).
If after all that you still find yourself feeling guilty about leaving that half-eaten chicken breast or nut cutlet on your plate, you can use the tapping technique that I will share with you in Chapter Six to eliminate the unnecessary guilt and move on with your healthy body and healthier life!
Just keep listening to the CD and let me do the work. You wouldn’t go to a restaurant and expect to cook your own dinner, would you? All you need to do is sit back, relax and let the powerful suggestions on the mind programming CD do their job. By the time you’ve listened at least once a day for at least two weeks, your mind and body will have already begun to change for the better.
Let’s get really honest here - you’re not fat solely because of what you drink. After all, there are plenty of thin alcoholics. The real issue with excessive drinking isn’t weight gain, it’s unconsciousness – and I’m not talking about drinking until you pass out!
Most people drink so that they don’t have to deal with what’s really going on in their lives – but now that you’ve begun this program, what’s really going on in your life is a process of continual, positive change. I would suggest that at least at first, don’t drink when you eat and don’t eat when you are drinking, but if you do, just make sure to continue to follow the four golden rules of the system.
(By the way, if you think you’ve got a drinking problem, then seek help from an appropriate professional)
Your life will never be under control until you begin to control yourself – and every one of the tools in this system will help you. Following the 4 golden rules, learning to manage your emotions, and moving your body are all disciplines – but they get easier and easier the more you do them.
In addition, the more control you gain over your eating, the more positive benefits you’ll begin to experience in other areas of your life. It’s not uncommon for people to report less stress, greater happiness and even increased income as a result of applying this system over time.
As for the binge, forgive yourself and move on. It’s not unusual and it’s not your fault. As some of the old patterns of overeating dissipate, cravings arise. But now that you have the tools from this chapter, you’ll be able to tap, tap, tap them away!
